Welcome to
Burway Rowing Club

Burway is a very friendly and competitive rowing club situated on the River Thames between Laleham and Chertsey. Membership is available to all, from beginners to experienced masters.

Latest News:-

1.3.2024 – Well done to Jess, who competed at the National Junior Indoor Rowing competition, at the Copper Box, and finished in an excellent 5th position on the day (6th overall, once the Leeds scores were included). In the 6 minutes Jess covered 1,551 metres, not far behind the winner’s 1,620 metres. Great work, Jess!

10.2.2024 – BINGO Night – Many thanks to Tracey, Richard and Connell for organising and running the bingo night, which was much enjoyed by all who attended.

Thank you to all who attended the AGM and congratulations to all our award winners:-  Maia – most successful junior, Alistair and Ellie (jointly) – most successful senior(s), Indi – most improved junior, Connell – cox of the year and Jess – 500m ergo competition.

Thank you to Paul for all his years as Captain and to Gary for taking over the captaincy, we wish you well.

Although they couldn’t go on the river because of the fast stream, it was good to see a Burway VIII at the cinema, for ‘The Boys In The Boat’.

Would you like to Learn To Row? It is a great way to get fit and have fun. Adult and Junior courses available. Please contact us for more details.

24.12.23 – Unfortunately, the fast stream has caused the cancellation of the Boxing Day Challenge against Staines Boat Club. Best wishes to everyone at Burway and Staines for a Happy Christmas and let’s hope the river becomes rowable again, early in the New Year.

14.10.2023 – Win for Alastair in Mas C1x at Weybridge Silver Sculls. Other racers (in very changeable and challenging stream conditions during the day) were Fikret 5th, Jess& Emmie 12th, Josh 15th, Connell 17th, Adam 20th (out of 30) and Jess 22nd (out of 34). Well done to all who competed and to the coaches and supporters who helped, throughout the day.

28.8.2023 – 2 wins for Ellie, rowing for Burway in a Black Sheep composite (and 2 x 2nd places as well!) at Gloucester and Ross regattas. Well done Ellie!

August 2023 – >>Burway’s 500 metre Ergo Challenge<< – update – A new leader, Jess, followed by Islay and Ollie. Open to all club members, see leaderboard below.

22nd & 23rd July 23 – Staines Regatta – A fleet of Burway boats headed up through Penton Hook lock for Staines Regatta and there was some great racing, despite the damp conditions. Not damp enough for Adam, who, unfortunately, capsized in his Final. Connell had a battle with Josh DQ and came out on top, to meet a very tough opponent in the Final. Maia and Jess also won through to their finals but couldn’t quite outpace their opponents. Scratch crew Mix 4x- Nathan, Ellie, Austin & Issy, were beaten by just a canvas in their Final. But pride of place to Alastair Ross, who overcame opposition from Poplar Blackwall and then Twickenham, to win the Masters C 1x.

On the Sunday, another 6 boats from Burway took part, with 2 getting into their finals. The W2x Sophie & Chelsea and Op2x Nathan & Dom, both won their heats but came up against strong crews from Reading in their Finals. Well done to all who took part, and thank you to all who supported or helped out.

16.7.23 – Molesey Regatta – A very windy Saturday meant racing was curtailed early. Ollie did manage to get through to the final but lost in extremely difficult conditions. More events were cancelled on Sunday but Burway enjoyed their first success of the season, when Maia won WJ16 1x, in a very strong competition. Well done Maia!   There were heat wins for Connell, Ollie and Josh. Once again, thanks to all those towing, helping and supporting our competitors.

9.7.23 – Kingston Regatta – Another large entry from Burway, 11 boats in all, competed over the 2 day regatta. No wins but some excellent performances. Jess was very unlucky when her heat  was adjudged to be a dead heat, then, when closing in on a win in the re-row, went for a swim! Ollie won his heat but was beaten in the semi final. Thanks to all who helped and supported.

Burway Rowing Club recently lost a very dear friend when our oldest and longest serving member, Peter Pattinson sadly passed away. Peter has been a real stalwart of the club since the 1950’s and our thoughts are with Ena and the family, to whom we offer our sincere condolencies.

18.6.23 – Thames Valley Park Regatta – A strong entry from the Burway juniors, who all competed well, with Ollie coming 2nd in his final, having won the heat. Thanks to Jim, Paul and Hugh and all the parents who helped.
