Well done Tracey & Claire for successfully completing their first outing in an VIII this morning.

28th Jan 2012

The Women’s squad had a good race at the Quintin Head coming 110 out of 142.

Congratulation also to Jacqui P who competed in a composite and came 114.

23rd Jan 2012

Challenging time was had by the Women’s VIII at Weybridge Winter Head, first time cox Emily C managed extremely well during a very competitive race and a belligerent Weybridge Senior 4- who had clearly not read the rules of racing! Losing at least three lengths overtaking the crew.

Next race is Quintin Head on the 28th Jan.

16th Jan 2012

Unfortunately no opposition for the Burway Women’s IM1 8+ at Weybridge on Saturday. The crew will still be racing to gain that all importance race experience in preparation for the WHORR in March. Please come and give them a cheer.

Safety Information

Now that the nights are drawing in please be aware of the following club rules:

All crews must be off the water by official sunset time See here for times

Recent graduates from the Learn to Scull courses must always be supported by someone on the bank on a bike with throw ropes as a minimum no matter what type of boat they are in. If there is no one to provide this support they should not be allowed to row and a land based training session organised instead.

01 Oct 2011

Good luck to Amanda & Paul W competing in the Pairs Head next Saturday.

04 September

The Senior squad Winter training & racing meeting will be held on 10th September 10:30 everyone welcome to discuss their expectations of the Winter season.

23 August 2011

Ricky Cowley is running the Windsor Half Marathon for charity and is looking for sponsorship:

On the 17th of December 2010 my brother Rich passed away in his sleep due to a freak occurrence related to Diabetes. Richard had lived with Type 1 Diabetes for six years since the age of 16, he was always hopeful of research that would deliver a future without the disease. This is why his family, friends and colleagues have chosen to enter the 2011 Windsor Half Marathon on 25 September and raise money for Diabetes UK. Diabetes is a terrible disease that can take the healthiest and fittest from us even at a young age! So please help and sponsor us.

Henley Update - photos

On Thursday 30th June both of the crews in which we had Burway members raced in The prince of Wales Cup event at Henley

The crew of Richard Ellera, Gavin Weeks, Steve Hermes, and Barry Gardner raced against a crew from Imperial College winning by 1 length after a very hard fought race

The crew with Tom Barras raced against a crew from University of London and Tideway Scullers winning by 2/3rds of a length coming from behind along the enclosures.

Friday 1st July Quarter Finals

The crew with Tom Barras in came up against one of the favourites for the event Leander B, their Lightweight crew full of internationals, the lads sculled very well but could not overcome Leander, after keeping with them to the Barrier Leander pulled out a 3 length lead but at the finish the lads did an amazing burst drawing up to within 2/3rds of a length at the finish.

This was a great result considering that this was basically a scratch crew only finally formed on the day of the qualifying races.

Our other crew were also against favoured opposition in the form of Tideway Scullers A, a seeded crew expected to get to the final, after a very fast start scullers took a slight lead from the end of the island but never broke away, the Barrier signal was reached in a time that was a new record for this event, showing just how fast both crews were going.

As the race proceeded the scullers crew drew a bit further ahead but as the crews approached the enclosures the rates increased and our lads pushed up to within ½ length at the finish, which was the second fastest time of the day for the event.

This was a great result considering that the crew have only been able to train infrequently due to their various occupations, and the crew they were racing train all of the week together, while disappointed, they all agreed that it was a great race to take part in.

Henley Royal Regatta

Tom is qualified for the Prince of Wales Cup at Henley next week, this will mean that Burway will have representatives in 2 crews at the same event at the Royal regatta, the draw is out and both of them will have their first race on Thursday 30th June.

The crew with Gavin, Richard, Steve and Barry are racing against Imperial College

The Crew with Tom in are racing University of London and Tideway Scullers composite

No times for the races have been published yet just the draw.

We wish them all good racing.

Henley Royal Regatta

Henley Royal regatta starts on Wednesday 29th July and the club will be represented in the Prince of Wales Challenge cup for Quadruple Sculls by possibly 2 crews.

A crew comprising, Gavin, Richard , Steve and Barry have pre-qualified for the event and the crew with Tom will attempt to qualify on Friday evening.

Unfortunately owing to the vagaries of Henley Regatta Burway’s name does not appear in the regatta programme as both crews will be entering as composites and only 2 named clubs are put into the programme.

So for your information the crew of Gavin, Richard, Steve and Barry although all Burway members are rowing as Eton College and Royal Navy and Marines, and if Tom’s crew qualifies it is called

Tideway Scullers and Stowe.

Amanda 5 June 2011

Today I won my first race Mas C Nov 1x at Weybridge Ladies - felt good can’t wait to do it again.

Amanda 28 May 2011

Our new 10:30 “New Novices” training session was well attended this morning with all participants making good progress. It’s a great session for those who haven’t rowed for a while and want to get going again and a brilliant stepping-stone from the learn to scull course to the main squad.

Amanda 19 May 2011

No senior women’s 1x races being held at the Walton & Weybridge regatta! This is due to a really large entry and races only being held if more than 5 entries received.

Paul W 12 May 2011

Burway had two Masters entries at the Marlow Spring Regatta.

Mick Sheehan, Russ Smith,Andrew Tyrell and Paul Barrett raced for the first time as a 4x-. They competed well but bad conditions and very good opposition meant they didn’t record a win but they all enjoyed the experience.

Paul Woodward and Russ Smith raced as a Master 2x and recorded their first WIN. No longer novices.

Next Senior races will be at the Walton & Weybridge Regatta and then at the National Masters Championships in Nottingham followed by the Henley Masters Regatta.

The seniors/masters are a rapidly growing section of the club and would welcome new members to help sections grow and become even more successful.

Credit for these successes goes to Christy Job our British Rowing coach without whom this success would not have been possible.
