National Championships 2008
At this years national Rowing Championships the club had it's most
successful year ever winning 3 Gold medals in all.
This year the following members raced at Nottingham all with great
distinction.
Thomas Barras - WON J14 Singles Gold with a stunning finish in a most
exciting race keeping ahead of the 2nd placed by just .24 of a second.
Well done Tom lets hope this is the first of many.
Tina Thomas - WON Womens Junior Singles Gold by taking the lead in the
final after 1000 meters and went on to win in stunning form.
This is Tina's first year of competitive single sculling that has seen her
progress through from early trials to the final selection trials for the GB
Womens Junior squad, just missing out on the last day of trials by a very
narrow margin.
With this win at the Championships Tina is sure to gain much confidence to
move forward to the next round of trials that will start later in the year,
we all wish her well.
Tina also raced in a composite Womens Junior quadruple scull, sitting in the
bow seat steering, they also won in grand style winning Gold and giving Tina
her 2nd Gold medal of the day some thing that has not been acheived by a
Burway Junior before.
As an additional reward to winning both the Single and the Quad final Tina
has been selected to represent England in both events the Quad and the
Single for the forthcoming Home Countries International Regatta that is to
be held at Cardiff this coming Weekend 26th July.
We all wish Tina well in this her first representitive regatta.
Jack Barrett - Jack entered the Open Under 23 Singles event and after
qualifying through the time trial raced in the semi final coming second
thereby reaching the final. Unfortunately Jack sustained a shoulder injury
1 hour before the final and was taken to hospital for treatment. This meant
scratching from the final, a great dissapointment as you can imagine.
Jack is now on the recovery road and hopes to be back in the boat soon, we
all wish him well.
Luke Tweddell and Peter Bonner - Luke and Peter entered Junior Double Sculls
event and reached the semi finals where they unfortunately did not finish in
the first 3 that would have qualified them for the Final.
Justin Thomas and Jonathan Lucking - Justin and Jonathan entered Junior
under 15 Doubles where they had to take part in a time trial to find the
fastest 12 from 25 entries, unfortunately they missed out getting through
but both enjoyed the experience, and with this being their first nationals
look forward to returning next year.
Luke Tweddell - Luke entered the Junior Singles event and had to take part
in a time trial to find the fastest 12 from the list of entries, after a
good scull in what was a very competitive field Luke just missed out on
qualifying for the semi finals.
This was a stunning set of results and shows what can be acheived with hard
work and dedication.
