Battle of the Craddocks

Battle of the Craddocks took place at the ISIS Sculls last Saturday. Amanda (Mum) and Emily (Daughter) took to the water competitively together for the first time in this lovely head race in Oxford.

Continuously Amanda set off knowing that her opposition in the Wmas C category was not the main threat! Waiting to take to the water in division 2 was EMILY, so much more at stake than just the pennant. Amanda had been watching Emily and coach Jim slowly turn up the pressure in recent weeks and she knew it was not just to win WJ15!

Although 3 mins faster than the previous year sadly Amanda still has to increase her speed to win now no longer a Novice.

Emily had a fantastic row and fought all the way - I wonder what was really on her mind.

So to the times, with a huge sigh of relief Amanda read the results, 12 seconds faster than Emily, only 12 seconds!  Well Done Emily Amanda can’t wait for the day, very soon, that you fly past her.

Burway Juniors had only one win at Molesey Junior Regatta:

Congratulations to Rachel G - on her debut race she won the W12 1x by 1 1/2 lengths beating Stevenson of Guildford RC. A close race from start Rachel took a slight lead and held her ground until the last 150m where she pulled away from her opposition.

Also representing the club:

J16 1x - Sam F

J13 1x - Billy S

W16 2x: Zoe C (J14) & Eleanor F (J14)

W15 1x: Ellie W

W13 1x: Chelsea W

All the crews racing well and losing by no more than a length or two. They have shown good progress over the last few months - lets hope they have better success at Staines and Burway Regattas'

Tom Barras

Last weekend Tom attended the final trials at Nottingham for the GB Junior Rowing Squad and following 4 days of very hard racing was selected to race in the Single Scull at the Coupe de la Jeunesse to be held in Austria from the 29th to the 31st July.

This event is essentially the European Junior Rowing Championships and will be attended by most of the European nations junior rowing squads.

This is great honour for Tom who’s ambition is to eventually compete in the World Junior Rowing Championships next year, this will be a fantastic experience and one that should give him a good starting off point for next year.

We wish him well.

Jim 02 July

Next week Tom will be taking part in the Final sculling trials to be held at Nottingham in an effort to get selected to represent Team GB at the forthcoming World Junior Rowing Championships that is being held at Dorney Lake in August.

We all wish Tom well in his endeavours next week.

Henley Update - photos

On Thursday 30th June both of the crews in which we had Burway members raced in The prince of Wales Cup event at Henley

The crew with Tom Barras raced against a crew from University of London and Tideway Scullers winning by 2/3rds of a length coming from behind along the enclosures.

Friday 1st July Quarter Finals

The crew with Tom Barras in came up against one of the favourites for the event Leander B, their Lightweight crew full of internationals, the lads sculled very well but could not overcome Leander, after keeping with them to the Barrier Leander pulled out a 3 length lead but at the finish the lads did an amazing burst drawing up to within 2/3rds of a length at the finish.

This was a great result considering that this was basically a scratch crew only finally formed on the day of the qualifying races.

Jim 26 June 2011

Tom is in qualified for the Prince of Wales Cup at Henley next week, this will mean that Burway will have representatives in 2 crews at the same event at the Royal regatta, the draw is out and both of them will have their first race on Thursday 30th June.

The crew with Gavin, Richard, Steve and Barry are racing against Imperial College

The Crew with Tom in are racing University of London and Tideway Scullers composite

No times for the races have been published yet just the draw.

We wish them all good racing.

Jim 21 June 2011

Marlow Regatta

Tom Barras took part at Marlow regatta on Sunday 19th June in a composite Quad scull racing in IM1 4x and IM2

4x, the crew won both races which is all good experience for Tom in the run up to the GB Junior final trials to be held at Nottingham from 7th to 11th July.

Jim 28 May 2011

Zoe Constantinou and Eleanor Ferrelly raced at Walton and Weybridge regatta in WJ15 2X, winning their first race but went out to the eventual winners in the next round.

Munich Junior Regatta

Tom Barras raced for team GB in doubles and quads at the Munich Junior International Regatta over the weekend of the 7th and 8th May

While not gaining any medals Tom gained a lot of experience that should stand him in good stead for the forthcoming Final Trials to be held 7th to 11th July at Nottingham.

Ball Cup South

This is regatta for small clubs and for those juniors relatively new to the sport, it is held at Dorney Lake where the 2012 Olympic Rowing will be held and gave the juniors the chance to row on the course 6 lanes wide.

We entered the following crews.

WJ13 1X Le, this was Le’s first ever race and in the end she was 9th fastest out of 23, a very good start to her racing.

WJ15 2X Eleanor  and Zoe  won their heat but as the final 6 were selected on time they just missed out on a place in the final being 9th out of 21.

WJ15 4X Zoe, Eleanor, Clelsea, Emily L, and coxed by Emily C found themselves in a very fast heat but just missed out on a place in the final, this was the first race for both Chelsea and Emily.

All enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to racing again soon.

Marlow Spring Regatta

WJ15 1X Eleanor  found herself in a very fast heat but suffered in the very strong headwind and very rough conditions

WJ15 2X Zoe and Eleanor did not make the final and once again suffered in the rough and windy conditions.
